What was decided

No plain-English summary has been written for this division yet. The result above is read from the question recorded in the chamber, shown below.

Text recorded with this division

Dan Tehan

I move:

That so much of the standing and sessional orders be suspended as would prevent the member from Wannon from moving the following motion immediately—

Milton Dick

The member will pause. The minister.

Amanda Rishworth

Under standing order 45(c), I move:

That order of the day No. 1, government business, be called on immediately.

No, I get to move this motion.

Milton Dick

The standing order does allow for a minister to intervene even before a motion is read out.

Dan Tehan

But there's no question before the House. This is just a gigantic gag—

Milton Dick

Order! The manager will resume his seat. Under the standing orders, the minister is entitled to do that. I'll just, for the benefit of the House, state the standing order, so we are crystal clear. Standing order 45(c) reads:

When there is no question before the House, a Minister may move, without notice, that a government business notice or order of the day be called on immediately. The question must be put immediately and resolved without amendment or debate.

This is what the minister has done. The question is that the motion be agreed to.

This is the question as put in the chamber, with the name of the member who spoke before the vote. It isn't a summary of the bill or motion.
