What does the bill do?
According to the bill's explanatory memorandum:
The purpose of the Creative Australia Amendment (Implementation of Revive) Bill 2024 (the Bill) is to amend the Creative Australia Act 2023 (the Act) to establish two new parts of Creative Australia and expand the governance structure to provide more support to Australia’s First Nations arts and literature sector s, as set out in Revive - a place for every story, a story for every place , Australia’s national cultural policy.
The Bill establishes First Nations Arts and Writing Australia as new parts within Creative Australia, in accordance with its expanded remit under Revive . These new parts will be subject to the internal procedures and rules of Creative Australia. The Bill also outlines the responsibilities of First Nations Arts and Writing Australia, together with their respective governing bodies, the First Nations Board and the Writing Australia Council. The Bill upholds the Australia Council Board as the accountable authority under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
